I have longed for this colour for quite time and post-application all I can say is that I am a little bit disappointed. I don't hate it by any means - I love these durgy dark tones, but it's just not as interesting as the colour in the bottle leads you to believe.
In the bottle it appears as something quite different. A real mix of colours including black, brown, olive and grey tones that come together with a load of glitter and in flash photos this certainly comes out...
However, as day-to-day life is not a photographic studio, in natural light all I am left with is a mottled glittery grey. I was expecting a multi-faceted deep coloured affair but instead I got a less glossy and more glittery version of Chanel's Noir Ceramic.
So this is one of those things that make you go mmm. It's ok but it's not going to make my Top 10 Nail Polish list any time soon.
I might be being a little harsh because OPI's Coney Island Cotton Candy wowed me so much...and guess what I am off to do now? Yep, paint my nails with that beauty! :)
Have you ever purchased a polish with great expectations only to be ever so slightly let down?

I think it looks lovely- very festive for this time of year!
I think nail polishes are just one of those things where colour payoff/effect are so inconsistent you just never know what you are going to get!
Btw, we are all still dying to know about your mystery hair growth product! When will it be revealed? :) x
@Monica - well i don't think it really worked so i will definitely do a video/blogpost about it by this weekend :)
It looks gorgeous with the flash....
opi - jewel of india. thought it'd be lush, in the summer on the beach. But it's just a bit blahh. At the moment im loving No17 lasting fix number 35 its a dark blue with a slight hint of iridesent-ness i can't explain it, but i like it, espically on the old acrylics :D
@kadywillis212 - ah the old acrylics. they are somehow always magic with polish. i miss them :)
I was a little disappointed with "My Private Jet" too. I do get quite a bit of compliments when I where it though. I just got an OPI polish that reminds me of Sephora OPI "Call your mother" it's a little darker its called "Parlez-Vous" I have yet to try it but it looks beautiful. FYI- I know how much you love Metro-Chic. Sephora has a limited edition Matte Metro-Chic. Just thought I'd let you know :)

I have had the same experience with Opi-Lincon Park after dark. I've heard a lot of great reviews about that, but in my opinion the colour is pretty with one coat (not enough to cover well the nail) and with the second coat it is too dark soo in blended out as a black. I prefered the burgundy undertone.
I love this, it's my fave polish
Such a shame, this looks so pretty in the bottle. I haven't purchased it though, I don't really like polishes with glitter, they're such a pain to remove!
The old version of My Own Private Jet was so much better! It was holographic! The one that's out now isn't as great :(
@Hell Candy Make Up - yes i had heard there were two version: dammit! i have been too slow. holographic nails sound v. cool :)
It looks great in the first photo!
I was actually a little disappointed in MPJ too. It was lighter in color than I had expected but then I tried it over darker colors and like it soo much more! Try layering it over a black polish or even a gray like You Don't Know Jaques!
It still looks gorgeous- polishes are annoying like that, they look so amazing in the bottle when all the product is compact but when you apply them they let you down.. sigh :) xx
I think it looks great! My nails are horrible right now, between dryness from the winter weather and frequent handwashing.
I don't know what was your expectation but honestly I really like it maybe it looks better in picture than in real life but I find it lovely =)
i luv it ..!!
I love it!!! i will def go out look for this bad boy Thanks xoxo
I love it! I have to say though, it does look much prettier with the flash.
I think thi actually looks quite lovely...very festive :)
I think it's rather fabulous actually. The nail varnish that I was really disappointed was the glitter that was released with Chanel's Blue Satin. I forget what it's called now. It just wasn't special enough!
I really like this color but for me it chips so easily compared to my other polishes! :( Don't even get me started on Noir Ceramic...worst polish I have ever owned! As far as what I have been disappointed with pretty much any super glittery OPI color including this one, but I am addicted to their creams!
I guess for every good polish you find there is a blah one! I have been looking into getting some of the OPI Holographic colours in the New Year as they look very pretty. I found a really good blog (it's not mine) with great nail swatches here: http://www.scrangie.com/ she does a lot of swatches of china glaze, opi etc. so might be helpful if you don't already follow her as her pics are really clear. Hi Laura,
I actually stumbled across a possible "dupe" for your beloved Metro Chic today! I was at my local CVS (here in the states) and saw Sally Hansen's new line of "Complete Salon Manicure" series, and the color Commander in Chic looks just like Metro Chic.
If you can find it in Dubai, you should do a side by side comparison. The cost was about $7 USD.

Wow in flash it looks totally amazing! Though agree that in natural light it's just something normal. Such a shame though :(
xxx
russian navy, opi..
sucha gorgeous color in tha jar,
on tha nails- not so much!
x
yes, I have on Essie green apple mint (or something like that) right now, and I hate it. I had to order it online too since it was sold out in the stores.
i bought collection 2000 in the hot looks collection it looked a black glittery blue and i was so excited. when i put it on it was matte and not glittery as in the bottle very disappointed. im yet to find a glittery polish that is as good on nails as the bottle. xxx
oh no! I just got a bottle of My Private Jet and haven't tried it yet. Probably because it looks a little strange in the bottle with all that glitter. If you like Coney Island Cotton Candy (I was so into that color for years) you may love Bubble Bath by OPI which has been my favorite nude for the last 2 years.I have had a ton of polishes that have disappointed me over the years. It is almost as disappointing as receiving a lipstick that you ordered online and it is not as described at all. ( that was me today) :(
When will I ever learn? Love your blog and videos.
i layer my private jet over opi's light my sapphire and it loooks pretty amazing. i loveee it :)
I have to say that I was highly disappointed by China Glaze's Ruby Pumps. Maybe I was expecting too much because so many gurus rave about it. I just don't enjoy glitter chunks in my polish.
I agree with Gina -- you should try OPI's Bubble Bath. It's gorgeous.
I bought the OPI metro chic from your recommendation and got so many compliments. Any tricks on making it last longer? I notice that the color at the tips comes off in like a day. I use Essie top coat and Nail Teck 10-speed.
This is a nice color too! very nice for new years!
Sephora by OPI Absinthe Makes The Heart, it looks absolutely gorgeous at the store. but on my nails, the beautiful dimension somehow disappeared. I wonder if a different color base will help to enhance these polishes?
OPI- i was super disapointed in suzi and the lifeguard it was SO streaky one would have thought i brought a fake though it was brought at a department store..
I'm always dissapointed with any glitters. They never look that amazing and then they are a bugger to remove.
I feel slightly let down by ruby pumps. Im not sure why though, I guess just high hopes not quite being lived up too. Everyone raved about it so much. Plus its apparently exactly the same as barry m's red glitter polish, just thrice the price.
And its the only polish I brought home for christmas, so Im stuck with it till I go back to my house.
I'm really surprised that you didn't like this - one of my all time faves! Oh well, different strokes for different folks! xxx
The color looks great in flash though :) But I agree its nothing so special in day light. It should have been more glossy.
Yes Laura, i did buy products and then say mmm... and such product i have is OPI You don't know Jacques Suede version...well..love the color and everything, but the last of this nailpolish is something around 2 days and it begins to chip, what i hate.. :) will try this OPI Island you're talking about. If you have time go to check my blog, you might love what i do :)
XOXO
I never really liked it either - couldn't understand the fuss!
